To avoid plagiarism, college students should remember to always cite the sources. If what you are writing, its common knowledge, so you don't have to cite. Making sure to use your own ideas is quite important when it comes to not only writing a sufficient paper, but to avoid plagiarism as well.
Unfortunately, technology makes it almost too easy for students to get a hold of scholarly sources, and to use them for their assignments. When encountered with a database filled with scholarly sources, the student should read it, understand it, then interpret it in their own words. Computers allow access to the sources for convenience, but the plagiarism abuse is almost made too easy. More students than not do not get caught with plagiarism because colleges and universities do not make it their first priority to reprimand students that plagiarize.
when a teacher does spot plagiarism by a student, they will bring it to the board of education's attention. If the student is found guilty of plagiarism, they will automatically be given a zero and will either be kicked out of school or suffering a suspension. When found guilty, the university does not take the situation for the student. It is wrong to steal and use someone else's work, let alone someone's with a doctorate or Phd, that obviously knows more than you about a given topic.
Wow, your title says it all...
ReplyDeleteI agree, with sources being way to convenient for students, they don't necessarily fully understand what they are writing in their papers. So not only are they cheating on their grade, but from their understanding the concepts as well.
